Kara is BlueConduit’s Senior Product Designer. Here’s a quick Q&A with Kari.
Why did you join BlueConduit?
I love collaborating with all the smart minds at BlueConduit! Great people and great work. It’s a joy to work on creative designs that help solve hard problems.
What professional experience and expertise do you bring to BlueConduit?
I’ve done brand and UI design for a variety of startups, nonprofits, and cause-based enterprises. During the Flint water crisis, I was working in-house at a nonprofit that did on-the-ground response work, so I gained lots of first-hand experience with outreach, crisis communications, and design tailored to the residents there. Knowing that a product like BlueConduit could’ve helped the people of Flint makes me committed to it!
What does a day in the life of BlueConduit’s Senior Product Designer?
Lots of rounds of the design process: uncovering the users’ needs, charting out the functionality to meet their needs, wireframing, user interface design, and iteration (and iteration, iteration, iteration). Then inevitably I feel brain dead and dissociate into my dog’s fur and talk to her like she’s a real baby.
What work accomplishments are you most proud of and what goals have you prioritized for this year?
I am proud anytime I can advocate for our users through design. Moving forward, I will always stay laser-focused on the people we serve.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
I am a digital and film wedding photographer on the side, so I spend lots of time taking and editing pictures. If I’m not photographing or reading, you can find me biking around Detroit or playing ultimate frisbee in the summer and xc skiing in the winter.
